New York’s 2020 Budget Proposes Tax Increase on Cigars to 75%

New York’s 2020 Budget Proposes Tax Increase on Cigars to 75%

In the proposed budget for 2020 New York wants to raise cigar tax from 28.5% to 75%. An example would be a current $11.07 cigar increases to $13.75 under this new calculation. This could potentially close many brick and mortar shops in the state or open us up to black market products. The New York Tobacconist Association is fighting to keep the tax at  28.5% for retailers throughout the state. Also in the new budget is a ban on all flavored cigars and pipe tobacco. If you are not a member of the association now is the time to band together to help fight increasing our cigar tax, and the flavor ban.
